Description

The Emanuel Wilfer workshop began building instruments in Germany in 1905 and is currently in the 4th generation of makers. The Wilfer workshop made many of the basses that were imported into New York City and labeled as John Juzek double basses. Emanuel Wilfer basses are systematically graduated using a process perfected by the Cremonese masters, like Amati and Stradivari, in which “circles” are laid out from the center balance point of the instrument.

This 1991 Wilfer Double bass has been setup to exacting standards and with no cracks or damage has a clean bill of health. The thick fingerboard ensures a solid tone.  With a 43.5″ string length, large hands are required.  The power and projection coming from this large-size bass make it an excellent choice for an orchestral bass section

Upper Bout (widest): 20″
Lower Bout (widest): 26″
C Bout (narrowest): 13 3/4″
Rib Depth: 8.75″
String Length: 43 1/2″
